Crispin Waterhouse runs Port Waterhouse Moorings in East Portlemouth. He leases moorings and pontoons to small boats, and hosts events such as weddings and formal meals up at the boat house overlooking the beautiful Salcombe estuary. The Mole Energy team installed a solar PV system onto the boathouse roof in 2018.
When Crispin decided to apply for European funding for Rural Development, he started to consider adding solar PV to the building to provide a renewable power source. In fact, the installation by Mole Energy eventually helped to sway the decision, and the funding was approved.
Choosing Solar PV
Crispin believes that solar PV is essential to a new build whenever there’s an opportunity to include it. Having noticed that the aspect of the building lends itself to a solar array, he decided to go ahead and start the process of choosing an installer.
The Port Waterhouse building had no gas or electricity, and he contacted a handful of local renewable energy suppliers to find out more about installing solar. “I contacted a couple of local suppliers before you guys came out to have a look at the site”, says Crispin, before explaining why Mole Energy stood out from the competition.
Why Mole Energy?
While the solar quotes themselves were largely similar, the Port Waterhouse team noticed one key difference between Mole Energy and our competitors – our exceptional technical know-how. Our installers are passionate about what they do, and they take pride in sharing their high levels of technical knowledge with customers to help them make the best decision when it comes to their solar PV.
When Tim from the team visited the site to offer a free survey and quote, he impressed with his ‘can do’ attitude, and left Crispin with a good feeling about the project. “Tim had lots of answers, he was very capable and really seemed to know what he was doing”.
Every member of our Sales team has a high level of technical knowledge and experience, so our customers can expect a detailed quote that covers every aspect of the job.
The Project
True to our word, we proved ourselves easy to work with, carefully working in parallel with the builders on the site to ensure that everything went smoothly, and the installation didn’t impact on their work. We were available to discuss technical details with the team along the way and delivered on everything we’d promised.
Crispin says “the best part about working with Mole Energy is that you were able to do things in parallel with the build, so it wasn’t a stress to get the solar panels put on and there were no additional costs. I was able to have discussions with the team on a technical level, so I always felt confident that I was doing the right thing. “
Complete Solar
We’re proud to offer complete project management when installing solar PV for homeowners or businesses. We oversee everything from health and safety management, to dealing with local authorities and energy suppliers.
“I have already recommended Mole Energy to other businesses” says Crispin, “you’re easy to work with, with a great level of technical know-how and you delivered with no problem. Since the install, we’ve noticed that the estimated readings from the electricity supplier have been quite high, and we’ve been correcting them with our actual readings”.
We’re thrilled to have been able to help Port Waterhouse Moorings achieve its funding, and this is one example of the successful projects that won us the Best Installer title in the 2019 British Renewable Energy Awards.
